Eboni ‘Nola’ Haynes

Eboni ‘Nola’ Haynes is an adjunct Professor of Political Science and International Relations teaching Arms Control and International Security. Nola’s research focuses on national security, foreign policy, and intersectionality, particularly looking at potential domestic and foreign policy consequences of the 2017 and 2020 identity-based Travel Bans, which targeted mostly Muslim-majority and African countries. Nola’s interest in Arms Control and International Security centers on nuclear modernization, reduction and deterrence, cybersecurity threats, and strategic planning. Nola is also interested in emerging threats in space. Particularly, Nola is interested in soft and hard deterrence tactics such as preventive force and coercive diplomacy. In addition to researching and teaching in this area, Nola is an active board member on the Women’s Caucus for the International Studies Association (ISA) communications team and the Foreign Policy board for American Political Science Association (APSA). In these roles, Nola is exposed to the latest research from scholars and practitioners. Adding to Nola’s portfolio, she is active within the national security policy space. Nola is the Director of Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security (WCAPS), West Coast. Nola is also a member of the Pacific Council on International Policy and is an alumnus of the WestExec Advisors mentoring program. Lastly, Nola has extensive communications experience and is currently on the communications team for the Black Professional in International Affairs (BPIA). Nola is a unique scholar within the national security space because of her multiple intersections in policy and communications.
