Mariela Martinez
Mariela just completed a two year assignment as a Literacy Specialist with the U.S. Peace Corps, posted in Uganda. During that assignment, she directed a program for the MM Wanyange Primary school for 980 students. She developed and maintained a library in the school as well as delivered library lessons to help 23 teachers learn about library maintenance, procedures and cataloging as well as how to incorporate reading and library usage as a weekly activity. She also presided as Co-chair for the Volunteer Advisory Council, a collaborative platform between 50 Peace Corps staff and its 150 volunteers, on matters relating to defining policies, providing a broader perspective for assessing policy alternatives, and developing strategies for successful implementation and evaluation of policies. Mariela graduated in 2017 with a B.A. in political science and a minor in interfaith studies from the University of La Verne, California. Here thesis topic is titled, “Religious Diversity: Denial, Tolerance or Coexistence.”
