Statement Congratulating Uzra Zeya, the First Asian American and Pacific Islander Woman, as Undersecretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights
Women of Color Advancing Peace, Security and Conflict Transformation (WCAPS) congratulates Uzra Zeya on her confirmation as the Undersecretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights. Undersecretary Zeya brings her extensive background and expertise to this position at the State Department, and we look forward to her championing human rights and democracy in U.S. foreign policy. Undersecretary Zeya is also the first Asian American and Pacific Islander woman to serve as Undersecretary of State.
Undersecretary Zeya has been a strong advocate and partner to WCAPS. She continuously supported and engaged with WCAPS programs dedicated to advancing girls and women of color in peace and security, and she played a vital role by serving on the Steering Committee of Organizations in Solidarity, a partnership among more than 300 organizations and individuals who are signatories to the WCAPS United States or United Kingdom Standing Together Against Racism and Discrimination Statements (Solidarity Statements).
We look forward to our future engagements with Undersecretary Zeya in her new role.
